RED DEER – The Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame has a new home at the Gary W. Harris Centre at Red Deer Polytechnic, where hockey history, education, and community can come together year round.
The Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame is proud to announce a premium partnership with the Seaman Hotchkiss Hockey Foundation as the Naming Rights partner of the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame. That partnership will extend beyond a physical space. As a cornerstone supporter, the Seaman Hotchkiss Hockey Foundation will be recognized as a champion of hockey history and future growth, with meaningful storytelling and community engagement opportunities connected to one of Alberta’s most beloved sports.
Dedicated to preserving Alberta’s hockey legacy and inspiring future generations, the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame presented by the Seaman Hotchkiss Hockey Foundation honours the players, coaches, officials, teams, builders, and pioneers who have contributed to the game across the province. Its exhibits and stories connect fans to Alberta’s significant role in hockey, celebrating not only excellence on the ice but also the perseverance, teamwork, and community spirit that define the sport.
“I would say, unlike winning the game itself, you need perseverance and a solid commitment from a lot of people to get the win and be successful. We have that with RDP, Hockey Alberta, and the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame. And here we are, our very own Hockey Hall of Fame” said Al Coates, chair of the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame selection committee.
The move to the Gary W. Harris Centre strengthens the Hall’s connection to the provincial hockey community and places its stories in a setting already closely tied to the growth and celebration of the game. As the home of Hockey Alberta, the Gary W. Harris Centre provides a natural gathering place for athletes, coaches, families, fans, and community leaders to engage with the people and moments that helped build Alberta hockey.

New displays and exhibits will help bring that history to life, creating opportunities for visitors to see, learn, and reflect on the province’s rich hockey heritage. From grassroots development to professional achievement, the Hall will continue to showcase the full breadth of Alberta’s contribution to the sport.
Also unveiled at the grand opening on Saturday was the Wall of Honour which stands as a lasting tribute to Alberta’s hockey builders, pioneers and legends whose impact shaped our game and whose legacies continue to inspire future generations. Though not here to celebrate with us, through this recognition, they are permanently welcomed into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame with the gratitude and honour they so richly deserve.
Bobby Seaman (son of Doc Seaman), Brenda Mackie (Daughter of Harley Hotchkiss), and Richard Hotchkiss (son of Harley Hotchkiss) unveiled their fathers as the first two members of the Wall of Honour. Doc Seaman and Harley Hotchkiss, two names who have arguable made the biggest contributions to Alberta hockey history. Their contributions helped bring NHL hockey to Calgary, strengthen the foundation of the Calgary Flames, and support hockey development across Alberta and Canada.
“He was a cowboy at heart, but he always loved sport. The integrity of the individuals so important always meant,” said Bobby Seaman.
“Dad absolutely loved Doc. He loved the game of hockey, and the two of them together were magic.” Expressed Richard Hotchkiss.
This new space at the home of Hockey Alberta not only creates an opportunity to deepen connections, elevate storytelling, and ensure that Alberta’s hockey legacy remains accessible and inspiring for generations to come. In its new home, the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame presented by the Seaman Hotchkiss Hockey Foundation will continue to honour the people who built the game while creating space for new stories to be discovered, celebrated, and shared.
