RED DEER – Hockey Alberta celebrated the rich history and enduring legacy of the game in the province on Saturday evening as seven individuals and teams were inducted into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2026 during the AHHF Induction Gala at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre in Red Deer.
The annual celebration recognized the outstanding accomplishments, leadership and lasting contributions of those who have helped shape hockey in Alberta and beyond. Family, friends, teammates, and members of the hockey community gathered to honour the Class of 2026 and reflect on the impact each inductee has had on the game.
Class of 2026 Inductees
Colin Patterson: A member of the Calgary Flames’ 1989 Stanley Cup championship team, Patterson built a 10-year NHL career as one of the league’s premier defensive forwards after signing as an undrafted free agent.

Paul Coffey: One of the greatest defencemen in NHL history, Coffey helped the Edmonton Oilers capture four Stanley Cups while finishing his career ranked second all-time among NHL defencemen in goals, assists and points.

Meaghan Mikkelson: A Team Alberta graduate, Mikkelson captured two Olympic gold medals and an Olympic silver while becoming one of the most respected leaders in Canadian women’s hockey.

Bruce MacGregor: After representing Canada during the 1974 Summit Series, MacGregor helped build the Edmonton Oilers dynasty as assistant general manager, winning five Stanley Cups with the organization.

Randy Mitton and Thomas “Swede” Knox: One of the NHL’s most recognizable officiating tandems, Mitton and Knox combined for more than 4,300 regular-season NHL games while representing Alberta with distinction for more than three decades.

Randy and Mike Moller: The Moller brothers enjoyed distinguished NHL careers, highlighted by Mike’s gold medal-winning goal at the 1982 IIHF World Junior Championship and Randy’s successful playing and broadcasting career.

2011–12 & 2012–13 Red Deer Midget AAA Optimist Chiefs: The Red Deer Optimist Chiefs cemented their place among Canada’s greatest U18 AAA teams by capturing back-to-back TELUS Cup national championships while leading one of Alberta’s most dominant dynasties.

Robert Clark Legacy Award
The Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame also recognized Perry Cavanagh as the recipient of the 2026 Robert Clark Legacy Award, presented to an individual whose exceptional leadership, commitment and lasting contributions have helped preserve and advance the legacy of hockey in Alberta.

Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame Gallery Opens
The celebration also marked a historic milestone with the official grand opening of the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame Gallery presented by Seaman Hotchkiss.
Located within the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre on the Red Deer Polytechnic campus, the gallery now serves as the permanent home of the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame. Through interactive exhibits, historical displays and the stories of Alberta’s players, builders, officials and teams, the gallery celebrates the province’s rich hockey heritage while preserving it for future generations.
The new space ensures the accomplishments of Alberta’s hockey legends will continue to educate, inspire and connect visitors to the game’s remarkable history for years to come.
